This past week we learned all about healthy bodies. Most of the lessons were pretty short but fun and we got some good teaching moments in there.
Tuesday we started off by playing Spot It.
Then we talked about how we all have different fingerprints. We looked closely at our fingerprints to see the different lines and then Baylor dipped each of her fingers in ink and decorated a paper with her fingerprints.
For music time we learned a new song to the tune of "Are You Sleeping?": We need food, and we need water. We need sleep, lots of sleep. To make our bodies grow. From our heads down to our toes. Grow, grow, grow. Grow, grow, grow. We acted out the different parts and for the grow parts we reached our hands up as high as we could reach. She picked up on this song pretty quickly and really enjoyed the grow, grow, grow part.
Then for learning time we measured all the different parts of our body using Legos. I had a bar graph that she could color in once she measured a body part. We did her hand, foot, arm, leg, and whole body. The whole body one was tricky and it was so cute to watch her add the ones at the very top and stand next to it to see if she needed to add anymore.
We had a rainy week this week so our outdoor time was inside playing with a balloon.
Wednesday we started off playing hide and seek. She enjoyed it so much last time so I know I need to keep it on regular rotation for something that we do.
For art I traced her body on a large piece of paper and she colored it all in. This one was a fun one to observe and see her look at herself and add different details. When she was adding her bangs she was telling me all about when she got them cut by Emily (her cousin) and how they were playing hair cutting shop. :)
For music we sang another new song to the tune of "Row Your Boat": Head, arms, fingers, hands, shoulders, knees, and toes. Eyes, ears, nose, and mouth; a healthy body grows. We pointed to each part as we sang about it.
Then for learning time we talked about the heart and how it is an important muscle in our bodies. We first watched a preschool YoutTube video about the heart and then we used a stethoscope to listen to our hearts. I then had her run around the room and do jumping jacks and then listen to her heart to see how it beats faster. We then did a little gluing worksheet with labels for different parts of the body. We ended our day with reading her library books since on Wednesdays we go to the library to get new ones once we pick Paige up from school.
Thursday we started off with playing "What's missing?" I got her doctor's kit out and laid out all the different items in front of her and had her look at them. Then she would cover her eyes and I would take one away and she if she could guess which one was missing.
Then for art we talked about the bones in her body and I showed her a picture of an X-ray. She then created her own hand x-ray by tracing her hand with a white crayon on black paper and then adding Q-tips for the bones.
For music we reviewed and sang the two new songs that we learned this week. Then for learning time I first showed her different pictures of ways to keep our bodies healthy- sleeping, eating good foods, drinking water, washing our hands, taking showers/baths, and playing outside. We then played a match game with the pictures. I then showed her some pictures of different fruits and veggies. I asked her what each one was and which ones she liked the best. Then I had her sort them by color.
The funny thing is after talking about things to keep our bodies healthy she wanted a drink of water. Anyone that knows Baylor knows that she loves lemonade and that is pretty much the only thing she drinks but water it was when we were talking about it. :)
We then talked about being sick and different sicknesses we can have like a cold, stomachache, fever, and headache. Then we talked about going to the doctor and we played with her doctor set. First I was the doctor and checked Baylor out and then she was the doctor and I was her patient.
We ended our day with reading this book. We love the Berenstain Bears in our house!
