Last week we decided that we would go to the Ballard Locks again. I enjoyed it very much last time we went and was fascinated by how the locks worked. It was fun to see the boats load up into the lock and watch the water rise or fall depending on which way the boats were going. We decided that we wanted to go see it again because this time of year there are salmon going through also.
The boats waiting their turn to go in the locks.
I love spending my time with these two.
There are two locks one for smaller boats and one for larger boats. Last time we came no boats came through the lock for the big boats but this time two large tugboats came through and that was pretty neat to see.
This day cruise boat came into the lock and many of the people enjoyed waving to Paige.
Watching the boats go in and out of the locks.
I loved watching the fish swim by. Some of the fish were huge! We listened to a tour guide lady for a little bit and the salmon that we saw were coho and they have gotten all fat and big living in the ocean/sound and they are making their way back to where they were born in lakes and streams. This fish ladder is a place where they chill for awhile because once they leave they don't eat for 6 to 8 weeks until they reach their home where the males fight for females and the females hatch their eggs and the cycle starts all over again.
