We are having such beautiful summer weather and I always want to take advantage of weekends where we can go on outdoor adventures together as a family. I knew I wanted to be outside and wanted to do something that I hadn't done so I made the quick decision the night before to go and explore Vashon Island. I had never been there before and I'm always up for a ferry ride and some time on the Sound.
We got to the ferry line with plenty of time so we walked around the marina for a bit while we waited.
Then it was a quick ferry ride over to the island. It is a pretty short ride, but was beautiful. I love being on a ferry and that experience. The views are always incredible and this ferry ride did not disappoint. It was way less windy than other ferry rides I have been on which was a bonus.
Our first stop was to see the old bicycle in the tree. Most of the bike is now missing so there wasn't much to see.
It was right by a permanent estate sale that we wandered through.
Then we went to Point Robinson Park and had lunch and then walked down the the beach and a lighthouse.
Incredible views and it is always fun to see a lighthouse.
A series of pictures of McCall trying to eat rocks. :)
I love the Sound so much! Paige was pretty tired the whole day and was content just to sit by the water, Baylor was right in the middle of everything and loved putting her feet in the water and playing with sand and rocks, and McCall kept trying to climb into the water and of course eat and throw rocks.
We found an amazing driftwood fort to cool off in and wipe the sand off our feet before heading back to the car.
Looking back on the day, I wish we would have just stayed at the lighthouse park, but you live and learn. There was another beach I wanted to check out, but when we got there we realized how far you had to walk to get to the beach and decided to try and find a different beach to go to. Then we went to another small one that didn't really have parking so that was a no go. The girls all fell asleep so it was fine just driving around the island until we found another beach to explore. We ended up going to Dockton Park which is a marina and also has a playground. The views weren't quite like the Point Robinson Park, but it was a fun way to end our adventure. Paige and I sat on the blanket and watched McCall play in the sand. Baylor and Nate kept busy finding all sort of little crabs and Baylor was collecting them in a little bucket.
The girls played on the playground for a little bit before heading back to the ferry terminal. We were pretty far back so we were worried that we would have to wait another hour until the next go around, but we ended up being one of the last few cars that they let on the ferry which such a blessing. The ferry ride back was beautiful though I wish there were no clouds around Mount Rainier because there was an unobstructed view and it would have been incredible if you could see the whole mountain.
Another beautiful day enjoying the outdoors with my sweet family!
